It is possible to have a career that fits around you
The team here at Herefordshire Cares, and a lot of the adult social care workers that we secure jobs for, have been in your shoes. Many of us are raising children, looking after our much-loved older relatives, have other responsibilities, and get involved with interests that we enjoy doing outside of our work too.
We’re big believers in getting the balance right. When we’re happy, we smile more; and when we smile more, the people we care for are happy.
What’s important to you?
Identifying what is important to you is key to finding the perfect role. The care sector is one of the few industries that is not only growing but offers such a wide variety of roles.
Maybe working only during evenings or through the night works for you. Maybe working part-time suits you better. Maybe you’re not after something with a fixed routine, in which case our ‘bank’ roles could be just the thing.
What makes a great care worker?
Simply put, YOU do. YOU make a great care worker. Your uniqueness makes you special. After all, if everyone led the kind of life that demanded a role that was Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, we simply wouldn’t be able to fulfil our mission to provide round the clock care for the people in our county who need it.
If you have a desire to help others live their best lives, to empower older people to live independently in their own homes for longer, or to inject compassion and fun at a residential home, then you have a solid foundation for what it takes to have a successful career in the adult social care sector.
While some roles do ask for specific qualifications, there are a lot that don’t. The roles that don’t require any previous experience ask that you are patient, a good listener, work well as a team, and have empathy for others.
