Sandra Brooke works for Total Living Care in Ross-on-Wye as a domiciliary carer in the community. She started her career in care after her last job, as a waitress in a hotel, went very quiet and she decided she wanted to try something different.

Since starting her career in care, Sandra has undertaken training and learnt new skills. She is now qualified to give medication and write, order, and collect prescriptions.

Sandra says she really enjoys working in the care sector because it is a very rewarding job, and you can really make a difference to someone’s life. She does highlight that it’s not always easy but reinforces that if you give it 100% you can go wherever you like in terms of career development.

She loves all her clients that she visits daily because they make her laugh, and she makes them laugh in return. Sandra notes that this is a particularly important part of the job because you could be the only person they see all day, especially if they don’t have family, or family live far away.

If you are thinking about a career in care, Sandra advises that you go for it! She believes it is the most rewarding job ever. She says you can make a difference to somebody’s day by just making them a cup of tea.
